ON the cover, Lloyd looks like the guy of
your dreams. Suave, with soft sexy eyes
behind the aviator glasses and, oh, what a
physique. And then he opens his mouth to
sing and, suddenly, that great fantasy bubble
pops.
That was how I felt when I popped this CD
into my player. Honestly, one of the reasons
I picked up this album was because I expect-
ed some sexy love tunes sung with vocals
that could put Brian McKnight's, or Barry
White's, to shame.
Well, Lloyd didn't really meet my expectations. On the first track, I cringed when this
boyish voice came out of the speakers. I was
disappointed because I, to quote the Spice
Girls, want a man not a boy who thinks he can.
Furthermore, Lloyd just sounds like any
other R&B artiste. Everything, from the
smooth music to the lyrics full of promises
of love and loyalty, has been done over and
over again. He might never be another White
but he could, perhaps, be the next Usher.
After I had come to the conclusion that
this album was going to sound juvenile right
to the bitter end, somewhere in the middle,
Lloyd became that man I was hoping to hear.
A song that became a favourite was
Player's Prayer. It's not every day you get to
hear an artiste sing about his sins and what
he would have done differently while he was
with you. This really tugged at the heart-
strings.
Then there's the extremely sexy What You Wanna Do. It's just a
feel good song that makes you really want to think about your next move with
that special someone.
But, really, all the tunes on this album pretty much have the same theme
and style. If you're looking for variety, this isn't the one for you but if
you're on the look out for a CD brim full of steamy music, this will be a
sure hit. |
