 IS it any surprise that
Vanessa Hudgens is now
balancing dual careers as
an actress and recording
artiste? Blessed with
good looks and a decent
voice (think a mix of sultry and girly), it was
really a matter of time
before some savvy
recording company exec tapped this High School Musical
star's potential.
All 12 songs on this debut album (released five months
ago in the US) have been designed to cater to the listening
pleasure of the tween market. The melodies are catchy
and easy to sing-along to, and Hudgens has also made
sure she's covered all bases by offering everything from
R&B to pop to dance. Most of you should have already
heard the 18-year-old's first single Come Back to Me,
which has been receiving heavy airplay for the past
month, and if you like what you've heard, chances are you
will find the album a delight to sink into.
While I'm way over the tween age group, I had fun listening to the album, and that's despite some distinctly
unmemorable tracks here and there. The tracks I did enjoy
were Say OK, Let's Dance, Psychic and Lose Your Love.
Overall though, I can't shake the feeling that this is music
that is unlikely to stand the test of time. In fact, I'm
inclined to believe that if Hudgens is serious about becoming a singer, she'll
probably look back on this album with embarrassment. |
